It’s one of the most anticipated Shore Conference hockey games of the season, one deserving a big stage…and it’s found a proper home.
On Monday morning it was revealed in a media release by St. John Vianney that the Lancers had been invited to skate against CBA in an ‘Outdoor Classic’ of sorts at the Navesink Country Club in Middletown on Jan. 3.
BIGGER THAN THE GAME: Vinca returns to St. Rose after diagnosis threatens career
The evening was initially supposed to see the Colts play host to Gordon Conference rival Don Bosco Prep in the clubs’ 3rd Annual Military Appreciation Night showdown.
However, the night will now feature the Colts and Lancers in a game that should have Class A North division championship implications riding on the result.
And according to St. John Vianney administration, the event will still have the charitable aspect intact.
VOTE: Choose the Sports Food Technologies Player of the Week
“The St. John Vianney High School Varsity Ice Hockey Team is asking you to consider a donation to help us support the following military charities,” read the media release. “For CBA, the Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski Memorial Fund, a CBA alum whocourageously died in military action while serving in Iraq. For SJV, Paws for Vets Program places assistance dogs with veterans and military dependents living with various disabilities.”
The puck is scheduled to drop at 6 p.m. and proceeds from admission will help with the cost of commemorative camouflage jerseys and – most importantly – the charitable organizations mentioned above.
Those interested in making a donation to benefit St. John Vianney’s efforts can send them to SJV Ice Hockey at the following address by Dec. 22:
