Head Coach: Skip Lytle, Second season (0-21-0)
Record last year: 0-21-0
Division/Classification: Class A Central/Public C
Home Rink: Winding River Skating Center
OPENING DRAW: Who will be the first courageous travel hockey players to dig their skates into the ice and take a stand for their hometown program?
That question won’t be answered this season, as coach Skip Lytle and his Lions outfit will enter the new year without a single travel hockey skater on the roster. However, what Lacey may lack in high-level experience they make up with grit, determination and the will to chase down the first victory in program history.
DIVISION RIVAL: Central Regional enters 2017-18 off winningest season in history
KEY RETURNERS: Lacey will head into the new year with five returning seniors, including Nick Festa, Sean Patterson, Devon Butler and Zach Turrin — who Lytle recently named team captains — as well as Chris Caputo.
Patterson, Butler and Turrin all notched their names onto the scoresheet last season, as Butler and Turrin were two of seven Lacey goal-scorers in 2016-17, while Patterson led the Lions with two assists. Lytle also expects Tyler Granato (1a), Dan Finver, Daphne Stanfield and Tom Gerhauser to have strong senior campaigns.
Dominick Palino — who etched his name into the program’s history books last season when he scored the club’s first goal of the year in a Dec. 17 meeting with Class A Central rival Red Bank Regional — fronts a junior class that includes Santo Trapani (2a), Nick Toth (1a), Ray Agosto (1g), Brandon Piserchia.
The Lions’ only returning sophomore is Payton Wolfarth, who registered an assists in his freshman campaign, and will be tapped for further production in his second season at the varsity level.
IN THE CREASE: The Lions will have a pair of juniors in Matt Cardinal and Ryan Thompson vying for the starting role, and the duo will have large skates to fill following the graduation of Will Mora, who led all Shore Conference goaltenders last season in saves (706) and shots faced (848), including a storied 85-save effort on Dec. 2 against Southern Regional.
DIVISION RIVAL: Freehold Boro looks to ‘Core Four’ in 2017-18
KEY NEWCOMERS: Sophomores Brett Stafford and Devon Sicknick will make their first appearances at the varsity level, while freshman Michael Long, Michael McMurran, Quinn Waters, Frank Hubscher, Sebastian Mongeau and Kyle Patterson will also done the blue and white for the first time.
