The New Jersey 87’s have had a busy start to the post-season, as the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) organization announced two more NCAA commitments.
In May the Middletown, NJ club celebrated Jake Ondrejko’s signing with Western New England University, just one day before netminder Dalton Jerzak inked his letter of intent to join SUNY – Fredonia, both of which are NCAA Division III programs.
Jerzak, a 19-year old goaltender from Rochester, NY, was the starter for the 87’s inaugural EHL campaign and appeared in 29 games, winning 20 and posting a .905 save-percentage to go with a 2.83 goals-against average.
According to a media release, Jerzak often practiced with the 87’s North American Hockey League affiliate, the New Jersey Titans, and earned a start with the Titans on April 8, stopping 30 shots and registering a 4-3 overtime victory.
Ondrejko, a 20-year old forward from Scenery Hill, PA, logged 23 points on five goals and 18 assists in 39 games this past season. It was his second year with the 87’s organization, and followed a 29-point campaign in 2017-18 when the club competed solely in the EHL’s premier division.
Jerzak and Ondrejko helped the 87’s to a regular season record of 33-11-1 and a Northern Division Championship.
The 87’s now boast six players that have advanced to the NCAA Division III level in 2018-19, as Jerzak and Ondrejko join Jack McDonough (Manhattanville), Ryan Gilroy (Albertus Magnus College), Geoff LaMorre (Fitchburg State), Trent Shanley (Fitchburg State) and Alex Borowiec (Lebanon Valley College).
