A deluge of public outcry against the Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) administration and athletic department all began with a Tweet and a job posting.
The opening in question was the CBA Ice Hockey program’s head coaching position, a post held since the 2007-08 season by Ryan Bogan.
The longtime face of the Lincroft club, which has served as a proving ground for eventual NHL standouts like James and Trevor van Riemsdyk, Joakim Ryan and Connor Clifton, among other major junior and NCAA Division I skaters, has been dismissed by CBA for reasons that have not yet been made clear.
NOTE: Bogan’s longstanding assistant coach Tim Grable has not been dismissed, nor has he resigned.
Alumni of the program have taken to their social media platforms in defense of Bogan, who amassed a record of 219-58-25 during his tenure with three state championships, three Gordon Cups and State Coach of the Year honors in 2015, recognition he received from revered Garden State High School Hockey reporter JC Hageny.
2015 was the same year in which Bogan’s son Ryan Bogan Jr. – CBA’s all-time leading scorer with 172 career points on 39 goals and 133 assists – was named the New Jersey’s State Player of the Year.
Bogan, a defenseman, went on to play in the North American Hockey League with the Northeast Generals, where he delivered 23 points and had a plus-seven rating over two seasons and 110 regular season games.
While on the Generals blue line, Bogan was paired with another former Shore Conference star in Southern Regional defenseman Ryan Rowland, who helped lead the Rams to their first Class A South Division Championship in 2015.
Bogan has since announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic career at NCAA Division III UMass – Boston.
